"Ask the gentleman the table is sad, the whole city is full of ditch oil." Earlier, Taiwan's gutter oil incident was pushed to the forefront of public opinion, and consumers were discolored by the smell of oil. For a time, olive oil, known as liquid gold, became the first choice of consumers.
But olive oil brand, bottle origin label, plus olive oil is divided into extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, pure olive oil, Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil, top edible extra virgin olive oil... All kinds of celebrities make consumers have no choice.
Some insiders reported that the domestic olive oil market is in turmoil at present. Various brands and labels are extremely complex. Even imported olive oil can be classified as authentic or fake.
Imported oil also has counterfeit goods
Recently, Yangcheng Evening News reporters visited supermarkets such as Baijia and Jizhi Island in Guangzhou and found that olive oil is more than dozens, less than a dozen. Labels show that these olive oils mainly come from Spain, Italy, Greece and other countries. The main brands are Betis, Count and so on. There are three main specifications, 500 mL, 750 mL and 1 L, respectively.
According to Ma Zhuang, a sales manager of a well-known olive oil brand in South China, all kinds of brands and labels of domestic olive oil are very complicated at present. Even completely imported olive oil can be classified as genuine or fake.
According to him, according to whether olive oil is subpacked after importation, the industry is divided into "original version" and "subpacked version". The original version means that olive oil has been subpacked abroad, and when entering the Chinese market, only the Chinese label corresponding to the content is added to the original package, and it is pointed out that the original package is imported; the subpackage version refers to the subpackage of imported olive oil in China, and the place of subpackage is marked on the product packaging. At the same time, according to the regulations, the name of olive oil should be labeled according to standard products, such as "extra virgin olive oil", "intermediate virgin olive oil", "virgin olive oil", "refined olive oil" and "mixed olive oil". However, reporters found that at present all brands of olive oil packaging are uniquely marked as "extra virgin olive oil", some also specifically marked "100% pure olive oil".
Because of the high price of olive oil, the European Union passed legislation requiring that any olive oil labeled "crushed" must be extracted from olives by physical rather than chemical methods, and must pass a taste test organized by European Union experts, Feng said. However, in order to maximize profits, illegal businesses will engage in illegal operations. The most common form of fraud is sub-filling, such as diluting super-crude oil; the other way is to replace it with other oils.
Look at the barcode and choose olive oil
At present, the domestic olive oil market is in turmoil, so how should consumers choose?
According to Feng, consumers can check the barcode of olive oil to distinguish between original and sub-package. The barcode of Italian original is 80-83, that of Spain is 84, and that of Greece is 520. "If the bar code is 60 or 69, and there are domestic QS food signs, it is likely to be imported in barrels and then sub-packed in China."
Feng Zhuang also said that many olive oil packages have English instructions. Different types of olive oil have different labeling descriptions of the place of origin and can be effectively distinguished by several words. For example, Italian olive oil, only Made in Italy means that it is made in Italy from inside to outside; Product of Italy means that it is an Italian "product"; Packed in Italy means that it is "packaged" in Italy and does not contain a clear indication of its raw materials; Imported from Italy means only that "the product is imported from Italy", but that it is 100% directly from Italy. It is unknown whether Italy imports from a certain country before exporting after manufacturing.
Another important way to identify imported olive oil is that the inspection and quarantine department will stick the blue laser label "China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ)" after passing the inspection. If this label is not attached, some of them are domestic sub-packaged, and some of them come in through informal channels. The state clearly stipulates that all imported pre-packaged olive oil must be labeled "CIQ" before it can enter the market.

Spain has suffered a severe drought this year
Olive oil prices may rise by 30%.
According to foreign media, Spain, the world's largest exporter of olive oil, has suffered a rare drought in the past 140 years. This year, the local olive production in Spain will drop by nearly 40% compared with last year. Spain accounts for 50% of global olive oil production. About 73% of the country's olive oil comes from Andalusia and 16% from Catalonia in the northeast. Industry judges that the price of domestic imported olive oil may increase by 30%.
Disasters pile up on one another. In August of this year, a large number of olive trees in Italy were attacked by pathogens, among which Pulia, the main producing area of Italian olive oil, was seriously affected. According to reports, Pulia produces about 11 million tons of Olives a year, more than a third of the national output. If the supply of olive oil of Italian origin is affected, it may raise the global price of olive oil.
