Disclosure of Jiaolong's New "Weapon"

Xinhua News Agency "Xiangyang Hong09" ship, Jan. 6 (Reporter Zhang Xudong) China's self-developed 7000-meter manned submersible "Jiaolong" is currently on the way to the scientific examination of the experimental application voyage of the "Jiaolong" manned submersible (35 voyages in the Chinese Ocean) in 2014-2015. The members of the scientific examination team introduced to reporters some of the advanced "weapons" carried by the "Jiaolong" for the first time.

1. Fluid extractor-hydrothermal pressure retaining sampler

The hydrothermal pressure-holding sampler is specially designed for collecting seabed hydrothermal fluid. It is made of titanium alloy with stable chemical properties and is operated by a manipulator on a manned or unmanned remote-controlled submersible. The equipment has good air tightness and high temperature resistance. It can keep the pressure of seabed hydrothermal fluid basically unchanged by compressed gas. It can transfer isobaric pressure when sampling, and can analyze and process hydrothermal samples collected at one time.

2. Magic Cap-Sulfide Growth Tester

Sulfide growth tester, also known as high temperature cap, consists of culture cap, connecting chamber and circuit chamber. The manned submersible fastens the culture cap of the sulphide growth tester to the top of the hydrothermal vent, which can cultivate the growth of sulphide and facilitate the collection of samples for testing. In the sulfide growth tester, scientists know the temperature, formation time and cycle of the hydrothermal vent, which is convenient for scientific research.

3. Needle of Seagod-Hydrothermal Automatic Detector

The hydrothermal automatic detector is small in volume. It can keep on sailing on the seabed through manned submersible and other carriers, and obtain a series of temperature and turbidity data of towing path. Through the processing and analysis of these detection data, environmental parameters are obtained and hydrothermal anomalies are searched.

IV. Biological Observation Magic Weapon-Long-term Cultivation Observation Box for Large Organisms

The observation box for long-term cultivation of large organisms is carried by manned submarines to designated locations, such as near hydrothermal vents. Manned submersible manipulator operates the biological capture device on the device, capturing large organisms and putting them into the incubator, so that scientists can take long-term and regular photographic observations of the organisms in the incubator. The water in the incubator communicates with the outside world to ensure the survival of organisms.
