"Jiaolong" sets sail and "Dragon" follows

On June 25, the Jiaolong manned deep submersible set off from Jiangyin Port with the Xiangyanghong 09 scientific research vessel and embarked on a pilot application voyage in the Northwest Pacific Ocean from 2014 to 2015 to investigate the deep-sea biological and environmental conditions. At about 8 a.m. that day, researchers from the 7th and 714th Institutes of China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group welcomed Jiaolong's manned deep diving hero team at Jiangyin Port Pier.
"Xiangyanghong 09" Turns the rudder and sets sail
During the farewell ceremony, Academician Xu Junnan, the chief designer of Jiaolong, presented the mascot "Dragon" to the director of the National Deep Sea Base Management Center in Hong Jun. According to the reporter's understanding, "Dragon" will also accompany each member of the Jiaolong manned team to complete the entire pilot application voyage task.

The cartoon image of the mascot "Dragon" also appears on both sides of the hull of the Jiaolong, which will accompany the Jiaolong in every dive of the voyage.
Jiaolong Deep Submergence Team Starts
According to the creators of the cartoon image of China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Institute 714, the image design of "Dragon" takes the Jiaolong manned deep submersible as the prototype, combines the appearance characteristics of the deep submersible with the dragon image in traditional Chinese culture, and personifies it. In order to embody Jiaolong's prowess in deep-sea exploration, the creative team gave the Dragon more agile limb movements, showing the image of Jiaolong moving forward in the deep-sea.
